My hopes for the Gaian Tarot’s Teacher card (traditionally the Hierophant) have been exceeded. You can see the card here. It is beautiful, and just in line with what I would look for in a Pagan-inspired deck. Truthfully, my first thought when I saw it was “Wow! What a great Hermit card!” But, no, it is prefect for the Teacher/Heirophant. Being outside, part of nature, is more in line with the Pagan mindset then being inside in a church or temple. Many Pagans, in fact, believe the outdoors is their temple or that they carry their temple with them everywhere.

The Major Arcana card associated with my Zodiac sign, Taurus, is the Hierophant. Quite honestly, I’ve always had trouble relating to it. In the Rider-Waite-Smith (RWS) deck, the de facto standard for many Tarot readers, the card shows a cold figure that, to me, conjures up images of organized religion and stifling tradition. Tarot reader’s often post a Code of Ethics on their websites. Generally they are very similar, saying things like “I’m not a doctor or a lawyer, so always seek professional advice. Several months ago I traded away my Witches Tarot. In a way, I was glad to see it go. I had used it for many years, switching to it from my first deck, the Aquarian Tarot, but I had never really loved it. Recently I had really started to miss my Witches Tarot. My pages are finally back in reasonable shape after hitting a bit of a snag yesterday. For some reason, Mozilla turned on the inline CSS option all by its self, and my pages started going all weird. I guess that’s what I get for using a beta program. 🙂 After a lot of work, and snapping at my very patient boyfriend, everything is just as good as new, if not better.
